A New Year, Big Events & Exciting Projects

Happy New Year to everyone! It’s 2026 yay! This year is going to be a big one, I guess. I went from three big events to two big events and decided to focus on social meetups a little more this year. I’m back to planning, which feels really great. I’ve been planning a summer party called Summer Connections for anyone who isn’t following the socials.

My first taste of the adult entertainment world was seeing Men of Dreams on stage at Sexpo 2023.

In September 2024, I had tickets to see Men of Dreams with a few friends to celebrate my birthday. The show unfortunately was cancelled, so instead I hosted my first party at my apartment and enjoyed some entertainment from them my first-time having adult entertainment at home. After that taste, I went on to hold three similar parties.

Last year, I came across the company Men Xclusive and their show, Xclusive Live, created by Sidney. I celebrated my birthday party there.

Who are they? What is it? Xclusive Live is a burlesque cabaret show that caters to all adults. I’ll chat more about this amazing show in a blog post coming soon

For Summer Connections, three of the performers have been booked to perform, with Sidney taking on the role of MC.

Challenges in Planning

Well, with the Christmas period and then New Year, it’s been a little challenging. There were times when my sugars were high, and I couldn’t concentrate but that just meant taking a break and coming back to it later. I also had a day where I struggled with emotional regulation while grieving for Mum, so I took the day off. Between Christmas and January 5th, I didn’t feel like doing much work. I’ve just been feeling the holiday period — like, don’t work, take a break, and relax lol. I hope that makes sense!

These challenges make planning big events even more complex but taking breaks when needed helps me manage and keep moving forward.

Learning & Support

Over the last few months, I’ve learned a lot. I’ve realised that when planning events, there are times you need to get approval before posting things online. That’s fair, especially when working with other companies most want to stay on brand.

I’ve had support with communicating and creating social designs to post. I’m learning more and more about designing with Canva and getting more confident every day. Some of the marketing is done by me, and some by one of my support workers, A. I’m proud of that. I’ve also learned a lot from A and another support worker about marketing. It’s just time consuming lol.

Joy & Reward of Planning

It’s been a great journey so far. Summer Connections hasn’t been the only thing I’ve been working on. Ever since I came across Men Xclusive, I’ve been going to their shows frequently. With the planning process of Summer Connections, having them perform is making the process more exciting. I have loved the entertainment industry.

Despite the challenges, the excitement of planning events and seeing everything come together makes it all worthwhile. Being able to bring inclusive entertainment to others is especially rewarding as someone with a disability navigating the event world

I’m also getting a women’s social group called Embrace and Empower ready to launch in March. More on Embrace and Empower soon. It’s a lot alongside Summer Connections, but with some planning and support, I’m making it happen ADHD and all.

To be able to do event work or even something you are passionate about while living with a disability, it’s all about finding the right support to assist you in capacity building.
